Most plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters learn their trade through a 4- or 5-year apprenticeship. Apprentices typically receive 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training, as well as some classroom instruction, each year. In the classroom, apprentices learn safety, local plumbing codes and regulations, and blueprint reading. They also study mathematics, applied physics, and chemistry. Apprenticeship programs are offered by unions and businesses. Although most workers enter apprenticeships directly, some start out as helpers. The Home Builders Institute offers a pre-apprenticeship training program in plumbing and other trades.

I had a underground pipe leak between curbside watermeter and riser main. Tony came and make wonderful solution suggestion and with good price. They made the least damage on house front, using all kinds of heavy machinery to cut concrete, lawn and paved new pipe for us. Tony and Enriqui checing up electrical, telephone, gas, telephone line location before digging and cutting. They put out efficient work for us in good manner. I will recommend this company to friends and neighbors.

late 14c. (from c.1100 as a surname), "a worker in any sort of lead" (roofs, gutters, pipes), from Old French plomier "lead-smelter" (Modern French plombier) and directly from Latin plumbarius "worker in lead," noun use of adjective meaning "pertaining to lead," from plumbum "lead" (see plumb (n.)). Meaning focused 19c. on "workman who installs pipes and fittings" as lead water pipes became the principal concern of the trade. In U.S. Nixon administration (1969-74), the name of a special unit for investigation of "leaks" of government secrets.
Despite the Romans' common use of lead pipes, their aqueducts rarely poisoned people. Unlike other parts of the world where lead pipes cause poisoning, the Roman water had so much calcium in it that a layer of plaque prevented the water contacting the lead itself. What often causes confusion is the large amount of evidence of widespread lead poisoning, particularly amongst those who would have had easy access to piped water.[14] This was an unfortunate result of lead being used in cookware and as an additive to processed food and drink, for example as a preservative in wine.[15] Roman lead pipe inscriptions provided information on the owner to prevent water theft.
Sewer main lines are mysterious places because, until recently, no one had any idea of the nature of the blockage. Roto-Rooter and other emergency plumbers would run the augering rooter machine down the line and hope that it adequately chewed through the obstruction to get the waste running again. But sewer video machines now allow plumbers and homeowners to see exactly what is blocking the line.
Plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters may use many different materials and construction techniques, depending on the type of project. Residential water systems, for example, use copper, steel, and plastic pipe that one or two plumbers can install. Power plant water systems, by contrast, are made of large steel pipes that usually take a crew of pipefitters to install. Some workers install stainless steel pipes on dairy farms and in factories, mainly to prevent contamination.
Don’t flush floss, tampons, or even so-called “flushable” wipes. They don’t break down like toilet paper does and can come back to haunt you later. “Toilets are more water-efficient now than they were 20 years ago, so there sometimes isn’t enough volume in the flush to force debris down,” says Marcin Wroblewski, president of ExpressRooter Plumbing in Toronto. “An object will get lodged in the trap and cause blockage when waste builds up days later.”
I came home from work and there were no work trucks outside of my home. I walked inside, and my home was silent. No more water leak sounds, no more dripping faucets. I double checked everything - above and beyond work. I think they actually left our garage bathroom cleaner than it was when they got here? Our tap water is drinkable straight from the tap. Our water pressure is amazing. The bathroom shower is amazing!!! There was zero, zero mess left behind. And the pipes are professionally put in place - the job passed inspection today. They literally re-piped our entire home in a work day.
George appeared on my doorstep at the expected time and immediated sized up the situtation. I liked that he explained the possible options and listened to me as well. The drain clean out was on the other side of the house, so we elected to go in through the roof vent instead. I could tell that getting that snake to where it needed to be was a bit of a black art, as was knowing when he had hit the obstruction. Because you see, there was a solid object in the drain which didn't belong there. Was it a matchbox car? Fisher-price little people? Uncle Roy's missing cell phone? We will never know but plenty of water and reaming pretty much insured it wasn't going to be a problem any more. https://youtube.com/e/hokTzqWiBMQ?app=desktop
"Woke up on Saturday morning to find my garage flooded and quickly isolated the culprit: my Hot Water Tank. After several inquiries I decided to hire Dr.(David) Dees Plumbing to replace my Hot Water Tank. He arrived that same day at the specified time, evaluated the situation, gave me a couple of options including my contacting the builder of my home to inquire about a possible free replacement (nice to do business with an ethical guy). Because of my time constraints I decided to have David replace the tank. I couldn't be happier with the price and service. He is honest, competent (Master Plumber), conscientious, professional, clean and friendly. He delivered a professional installation of a commercial grade (Gas) Hot Water Tank compliant with all Fort Worth building/installation codes. He answered all my questions. Shared some maintenance tips to extend the life of my tank. Disposed of the old tank and cleaned up his work space afterwards. If there was a grade higher than "Outstanding" I would give it. I would have no problem rehiring David for future plumbing jobs or recommending him to my friends and acquaintances. A+++++ for service and price. Signed Paul D in Fort Worth, TX"
"We have never used CroppMetcalfe before, but awoke in the wee hours to a plumbing emergency, so we tried calling. We were thrilled to get a noon - 5 PM service window. Levi did a great job and arrived early. (We were notified he could arrive early which was very welcome.) We bought a PSP and look forward to using CroppMetcalfe in the future, though hopefully only for scheduled calls. No more plumbing emergencies would be good. We are especially grateful for the timely "call ahead" because we've got two big, loud dogs, so it's important for us to get them out of the way, so the service personnel can work.  Thank you for your excellent service."

Before calling a plumber, try to unclog your drains and toilets yourself by using a plunger. Make sure you use a standard bell-shaped plunger for your sink and shower drains and a plunger with a flanged end for your toilets. If neither type can loosen the pipe blockage, put a plumber's snake to use. Ratchet the snake down the pipe to eliminate any clogs.
"Leak Chaser's Plumbing did a great job. I needed to get my new kitchen sink plumbing reconnected after getting new countertops installed and with an existing garbage disposal and new dishwasher. I thought that I could do it myself and save some money, but of course, I got in over my head. The charges were very reasonable and comparable to the other quotes. Nothing's free plumber's have to get their professional lincenses renewed annually at a costly fee like the rest of us in different professions. He was very professional and patience with me. I would recommend and hire them again. Shout out to the DIYers!"

“Don’t assume that every Mr. Fix-it advertising his services in the local Pennysaver or on Craigslist is a licensed plumber,” says one New York plumber. There is no national standard for issuing licenses. Some plumbers are licensed by the state, others by the counties they work in. Check with your local city hall or chamber of commerce. They should be able to direct you to the appropriate source for a list of licensed plumbers in your area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hokTzqWiBMQ&app=desktop
Another way to avoid a service call from your plumber is to make sure the outside faucets are turned off in the winter and make sure you disconnect the outside hoses. You need to shut the water off from the inside. Then, open the valve on the outside to let the water that’s in there drain out—you switch both of them to the opposite direction so one is always closed and one is always open. We have to fix tons of these in the spring mostly because people leave their outside hoses connected and they freeze up. The repair could cost $100-$200 or more. Another tip would be if you’re going away for any length of time, like on vacation, turn off your water. If on any of those days the temperature drops below freezing, have someone check in on your house. I’ve been called to homes where the family returned from vacation, and there was water flooding out from the front door. https://www.youtube.com/e/hokTzqWiBMQ
