Called for a quote on an issue we had with our septic. I am new to septic systems and definitely not a professional so when I was trying to explain to August what I was trying to get looked at, he practically attacked me saying "so you want to ruin your septic tank?!" Obviously not, I was trying to get help, from what I thought was an industry professional, so that I DIDN'T ruin my system! Even though he talked to me like I was an idiot, I was still considering using his service because of the great reviews, but after finding out that I was spoken to that way by an owner.... not gonna happen!
During a sewer video inspection, the homeowner can watch over the technician's shoulder as the camera snakes its way through your sewer. After the camera finds the obstruction, it is stopped. The video technician then goes outside with a sewer sonde device which locates the video camera underground. This area is marked with spray paint. If the sewer line later needs to be dug up and replaced, workers will know exactly where to dig. Roto-Rooter provides the video to the homeowner, either on DVD format or online.
Don’t flush floss, tampons, or even so-called “flushable” wipes. They don’t break down like toilet paper does and can come back to haunt you later. “Toilets are more water-efficient now than they were 20 years ago, so there sometimes isn’t enough volume in the flush to force debris down,” says Marcin Wroblewski, president of ExpressRooter Plumbing in Toronto. “An object will get lodged in the trap and cause blockage when waste builds up days later.” http://www.youtube.com/v/hokTzqWiBMQ&feature=youtube_gdata
Cast iron and ductile iron pipe was long a lower-cost alternative to copper, before the advent of durable plastic materials but special non-conductive fittings must be used where transitions are to be made to other metallic pipes, except for terminal fittings, in order to avoid corrosion owing to electrochemical reactions between dissimilar metals (see galvanic cell).[17]
Not only do plumber apprentices have to complete their training and education to receive their licenses, they also are required to pass a criminal background check and carry liability insurance. Hiring just anybody can make you vulnerable to fraud since unlicensed plumbers might not know what they're doing or could pretend to fix something and end up charging you for the incomplete work. http://www.youtube.com/v/hokTzqWiBMQ&feature=youtu.be

Most large cities today pipe solid wastes to sewage treatment plants in order to separate and partially purify the water, before emptying into streams or other bodies of water. For potable water use, galvanized iron piping was commonplace in the United States from the late 1800s until around 1960. After that period, copper piping took over, first soft copper with flared fittings, then with rigid copper tubing utilizing soldered fittings.

Most typical single family home systems won't require supply piping larger than 3⁄4 inch (19 mm) due to expense as well as steel piping's tendency to become obstructed from internal rusting and mineral deposits forming on the inside of the pipe over time once the internal galvanizing zinc coating has degraded. In potable water distribution service, galvanized steel pipe has a service life of about 30 to 50 years, although it is not uncommon for it to be less in geographic areas with corrosive water contaminants.
"lead hung on a string to show the vertical line," early 14c., from Old French *plombe, plomee "sounding lead," and directly from Late Latin *plumba, originally plural of Latin plumbum "lead (the metal), lead ball; pipe; pencil," a word of unknown origin, related to Greek molybdos "lead" (dialectal bolimos) and perhaps from an extinct Mediterranean language, perhaps Iberian.

Just had my toilet replaced cuz my old one died.  Anyway, I called and was greeted by August who was very nice.  I told him what I needed and then he told me he would have someone call me back asap to set up the appointment to have my toilet replaced.  In about an hour, maybe less, I received a call from one of the plumbers and he asked about details regarding the type of toilet I had and how big the restroom was, etc etc....I suck at describing details so I asked if it's ok to take a picture of the toilet and the restroom and he said that's fine.  Once he got the pictures he gave me a reasonable quote and said he will be at my place between 12-1pm.   He came within the specified time and the whole process only took an hour.  No fuss, no mess.  Very please with the service and will definitely use this company again for future plumbing needs.  Thank you!

An apprenticeship is the most common pathway to becoming a plumber. Many unions and businesses mandate that an apprentice receive a minimum of 246 hours of technical education, which could include instruction in math, applied physics and chemistry, and up to 2,000 hours of paid, practical training working with an experienced plumber. Safety training is also an important component of the process, since injuries are common in this line of work. "We have many hours worth of [Occupational Safety and Health Administration] training before we go on to a job site," says Patrick Kellett, the administrative assistant to the general president for the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing, Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States, Canada and Australia. "We're very conscious of the dangers that come with working in construction."

Luke and Seng were wonderful. Water not draining is troubling for any homeowner. Both were very professional and comforting as they assessed and worked to correct my problem. I was alarmed when is was not a quick fix but they made the extra effort to correct my problem so no concrete floor is being wrapped up today. Benjamin Franklin plumbing is on at the top of my list.

It is possible to prevent tree roots from obstructing sewer lines. Chemicals such as copper sulfate and potassium hydroxide can be used around the sewer line to discourage root intrusion.  Metal or wood barriers can also be installed around the sewer lines to keep them free of root damage. When landscaping, it's best to limit the amount of plants or trees placed in close proximity to sewer lines.

8/4/2017 I was only trying to explain the process of how to save what you have and locate what you wanted.  I… I was only trying to explain the process of how to save what you have and locate what you wanted.  I deal with a lot of customers like yourself in which don't understand the dynamics of how a septic system works and is suppose to preform.  There is a process that needs to be done to do things correctly.  I'm sure my ball park estimate over the phone completely itemized will most likely be less then anyone else with servicing your system and figuring out what and all you have going on.   You said, you have had the sink hole in your back yard for a couple months now and is deeper then you can see.   I was only urging you to take care of the situation as quickly as possible before someone gets hurt.   I apologize if I came off rude or made you feel like an idiot.  I will take this review in consideration to help myself be more professional and courteous while trying to explain things on the phone.  We have the amount of reviews we have because we are a moral upstanding company that does not take advantage of our customers.   Sometimes the truth is not good to here over the phone yet some companies like to get there foot in the door first per-say before they rip you off.
Garbage disposers usually come with an Allen key. Find a good place to store it, and when the disposer jams, you can follow the directions in the owner’s manual to fix it yourself. It’s as simple as inserting and twisting, and doing this yourself will save you the hassle and cash of a service call to the plumber. Speaking of tool storage, check out these clever tool storage ideas.
Had some scheduling issues recently, which is why 4 stars. Strongly suggest that they get rid of the policy (of which I was not aware) that if you are unable to answer your phone for the "courtesy call" that the plumber is on the way, your appointment gets cancelled. Along with the 4 hour window, this is not customer-friendly. But other than that, I've always been very happy with the actual work done and the overall efficiency of the company
Augering the sewer main line is Roto-Rooter's stock in trade, a service they have been providing since the 1930s. The process begins by wheeling their large root-cutting machine into your house and as close as possible to your sewer trap. Electric access is needed. The technician opens up the sewer trap and advances the auger down the sewer line. At the end is a rotating cutting head that cuts into shreds the soft obstructions, sending them down the sewer line and to the city main line. The Roto-Rooter machine is even strong enough to cut through tree roots. But should the tree root prove to be too strong, it might break the auger head.
Our kitchen sink was stopped up this morning due to me pouring something down that I shouldn't have. I tried pouring boiling water down the drain, to no avail, vinegar/soda, again, not helpful, then called the Professionals, ProDrain & Rooter Service. Abe managed to make an unexpected repair and expense a lot less stressful and if you can imagine, even relaxing. His expertise and professionalism were perfect. He was flexible and accommodating to all of our questions, provided options and information, and never made us feel pressured. I would have him back again in a heartbeat if ever needed. Thank you for having such a great team!
Plumbers may not go out of their way to let you know that a toilet or sink can be moved. But if you’ve been working with them on a renovation, and they tell you something can’t be transferred to a new space, ask them to explain to you in detail why not. Speaking of things people don’t want to tell you, here are 10 things your neighbor isn’t being up-front about.

"I had an awesome experience with Bob Oates Sewer & Rooter! Sam and Christian came by my condo to provide a free estimate for my leaky faucet, which was at least $100 cheaper than what a competitor quoted me at. They proceeded to fix my issue, assist with an additional toilet issue I had, and gave me advice on a third dishwasher issue. I highly recommend this plumbing company!"
George appeared on my doorstep at the expected time and immediated sized up the situtation. I liked that he explained the possible options and listened to me as well. The drain clean out was on the other side of the house, so we elected to go in through the roof vent instead. I could tell that getting that snake to where it needed to be was a bit of a black art, as was knowing when he had hit the obstruction. Because you see, there was a solid object in the drain which didn't belong there. Was it a matchbox car? Fisher-price little people? Uncle Roy's missing cell phone? We will never know but plenty of water and reaming pretty much insured it wasn't going to be a problem any more.

You won't always need to call a plumber to help you fix a nasty clog if you treat your pipes right. Don't use your toilet or kitchen sink like a trash can by stuffing hard to flush material down the drain or pouring fats and oils down the pipe. Throw coffee grounds and eggshells in the garage instead of in your sink. Also, only use your toilet to flush human waste and toilet paper, because any other materials could clog your commode. https://www.youtube.com/v/hokTzqWiBMQ?version=3

August came out to inspect 3 septic tanks on a property I had in escrow. He is extremely knowledgeable. As a real estate broker and property manager, I've hired countless plumbing and septic companies over the years. He was on time, professional, got right to work, took his time and did a very thorough inspection. The value he provided was the best investment I made on this deal. Hiring knowledgeable contractors to inspect your properties is your best insurance against loss and he saved me tens of thousands of dollars with the information he provided. His company is moving to the #1 spot on my list for plumbing or septic services. I highly recommend him and will refer him to any of my friends/colleagues knowing they'll be well taken care of at a fair price
I live in central PA where we have very hard water. I was living with my father-in-law when he got a new water heater because he wanted more capacity. I don't know how old the old one was, but i do know that after it was replaced, we were replacing coils every 6-8 months. This is on top of a new coffee pot every couple of months. He would just buy a $10-$20 pot because the 'better' ones would die too. After we installed the Eddy Water Descaler a little over two years ago, he hasn't had to replace either of those things. I can't speak to how efficient it is compared to other options, but in the time since installing it, it has certainly made noticeable differences to dish spots, hard water deposits, and life expectancy of appliances. It may seem like mumbo jumbo, but there is absolutely something to them, they do work well. And in retrospect, maybe having had it installed earlier would've saved him from feeling like he needed to replace he water heater because it would've been running more efficiently.
