At Smith's Plumbing Services, we pride ourselves in giving our customers upfront pricing. This allows the customer to make an educated decision about whether or not to use our services before we've even completed the work. Upon our technician's arrival, he or she will quote the customer a repair or diagnosis cost. If the customer declines to use our services after the quote is given, all they owe is our service fee of $59.00. If they do decide to use our services, the service fee of $59.00 is waived. It's simple: we want our customers to be informed during every step of the way. This starts with proving our customers with an upfront price for the proposed repairs.

These guys were great. Professional, quick and reasonably priced. They got to my house within minutes. Once here, they took a look and ran to get the part needed before closing. The whole job was done within one hour, including their visit to the warehouse. Awesome guys! Definitely would recommend. Our kitchen faucet works great now. Jessica M.- Yelp

Wooden pipes were used in London and elsewhere during the 16th and 17th centuries. The pipes were hollowed-out logs, which were tapered at the end with a small hole in which the water would pass through.[16] The multiple pipes were then sealed together with hot animal fat. They were often used in Montreal and Boston in the 1800s, and built-up wooden tubes were widely used in the USA during the 20th century. These pipes, used in place of corrugated iron or reinforced concrete pipes, were made of sections cut from short lengths of wood. Locking of adjacent rings with hardwood dowel pins produced a flexible structure. About 100,000 feet of these wooden pipes were installed during WW2 in drainage culverts, storm sewers and conduits, under highways and at army camps, naval stations, airfields and ordnance plants. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hokTzqWiBMQ&app=desktop

Present-day water-supply systems use a network of high-pressure pumps, and pipes in buildings are now made of copper,[25] brass, plastic (particularly cross-linked polyethylene called PEX, which is estimated to be used in 60% of single-family homes[26]), or other nontoxic material. Due to its toxicity, most cities moved away from lead water-supply piping by the 1920s in the United States,[27] although lead pipes were approved by national plumbing codes into the 1980s,[28] and lead was used in plumbing solder for drinking water until it was banned in 1986.[27] Drain and vent lines are made of plastic, steel, cast-iron, or lead.[29][30]

Another way to avoid a service call from your plumber is to make sure the outside faucets are turned off in the winter and make sure you disconnect the outside hoses. You need to shut the water off from the inside. Then, open the valve on the outside to let the water that’s in there drain out—you switch both of them to the opposite direction so one is always closed and one is always open. We have to fix tons of these in the spring mostly because people leave their outside hoses connected and they freeze up. The repair could cost $100-$200 or more. Another tip would be if you’re going away for any length of time, like on vacation, turn off your water. If on any of those days the temperature drops below freezing, have someone check in on your house. I’ve been called to homes where the family returned from vacation, and there was water flooding out from the front door.
"This was quality service above and beyond expectations. The technician clearly explained all work that was done - in fact the technician even took the time to explain my entire plumbing system. This was information that I didn't even receive from the builder - excellent, excellent, excellent service. Received call ahead of technician's arrival and also received a text message. Best money spent on a home service. Will be recommending to many of my neighbors to use his services. Thank you Sergio."

The entire job which was huge, was finished and cleaned up in a day in a half. Well worth the $2,900 as a job of this size and difficulty would have taken me at least a full week and put me way behind. Many of us do it yourselfers know just enough to tackle our home improvement projects, but there are times when it pays to call in the experts. With my need to move the vent pipe and water supply lines, I called the experts at Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and recommend that you do the same. The job was done correctly, by a professional which gives me great piece of mind when I sell the property.

The word "plumber" dates from the Roman Empire.[3] The Latin for lead is plumbum. Roman roofs used lead in conduits and drain pipes[4] and some were also covered with lead, lead was also used for piping and for making baths.[5] In medieval times anyone who worked with lead was referred to as a plumber as can be seen from an extract of workmen fixing a roof in Westminster Palace and were referred to as plumbers "To Gilbert de Westminster, plumber, working about the roof of the pantry of the little hall, covering it with lead, and about various defects in the roof of the little hall".[6] Thus a person with expertise in working with lead was first known as a Plumbarius which was later shortened to plumber. http://m.www.youtube.com/embed/hokTzqWiBMQ

Most large cities today pipe solid wastes to sewage treatment plants in order to separate and partially purify the water, before emptying into streams or other bodies of water. For potable water use, galvanized iron piping was commonplace in the United States from the late 1800s until around 1960. After that period, copper piping took over, first soft copper with flared fittings, then with rigid copper tubing utilizing soldered fittings.

In the moving-in phase of a condo over several days, the garbage disposal was found to be dysfunctional. A handyman said it needed a new disposal, which I had to buy and he would install during his tight schedule next week. With water leaking through the pipes to the dishwasher to the kitchen floor the disposal needed attention NOW. One of the 5-star plumbing companies said it would cost $400. ProDrain gave a price that included one hour for $125 and $133 for a 1/2 horsepower disposal. OK. I needed help NOW! The plumber Pro-Drain sent could have been raised by my mom. He was ethical. He just took out a hex wrench and loosened the disposal and it works fine. Total cost $105 for his time. I'll call Pro-Drain again if I need plumbing work.
A grease trap is a plumbing device used to prevent grease and solids from entering the sewer waste system. Many types of grease solidify at normal temperatures, and this can cause blockages in sewer pipes. These blockages can cause the sewer system to overflow, creating unsanitary conditions for the public. By preventing pipe blockages, grease traps discourage overflows. Grease traps are frequently used by restaurants and food service establishments.
Some states do not require plumbers to be licensed, but for the safety of your house, it is important to have  a licensed plumber to do the needed work. A licensed plumber means the person completed the necessary education or training required to work as a professional tradesperson. Hiring a licensed plumbing service means the people working on your building are knowledgeable about water and gas pipes.
Pipe is available in rigid "joints", which come in various lengths depending on the material. Tubing, in particular copper, comes in rigid hard tempered "joints" or soft tempered (annealed) rolls. PeX and CPVC tubing also comes in rigid "joints" or flexible rolls. The temper of the copper, that is whether it is a rigid "joint" or flexible roll, does not affect the sizing.[19]

Had some scheduling issues recently, which is why 4 stars. Strongly suggest that they get rid of the policy (of which I was not aware) that if you are unable to answer your phone for the "courtesy call" that the plumber is on the way, your appointment gets cancelled. Along with the 4 hour window, this is not customer-friendly. But other than that, I've always been very happy with the actual work done and the overall efficiency of the company
The straight sections of plumbing systems are called "pipes" or "tubes". A pipe is typically formed via casting or welding, whereas a tube is made through extrusion. Pipe normally has thicker walls and may be threaded or welded, while tubing is thinner-walled and requires special joining techniques such as brazing, compression fitting, crimping, or for plastics, solvent welding. These joining techniques are discussed in more detail in the piping and plumbing fittings article.

When a person has a blockage in their sewage system they often try to fix it themselves by adding an acid or a base such as Drano in an attempt to dissolve or dislodge the problem. These chemicals can get into the plumbers eyes [14] when the sewage is splashed during the repair. The plumbers skin during the repair does come into contact with the sewage water.[15] The owner of the toilet might not report to the plumber they have already tried Drano a highly caustic base .

Plastic pipe is in wide use for domestic water supply and drain-waste-vent (DWV) pipe. Principal types include: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was produced experimentally in the 19th century but did not become practical to manufacture until 1926, when Waldo Semon of BF Goodrich Co. developed a method to plasticize PVC, making it easier to process. PVC pipe began to be manufactured in the 1940s and was in wide use for Drain-Waste-Vent piping during the reconstruction of Germany and Japan following WWII. In the 1950s, plastics manufacturers in Western Europe and Japan began producing acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) pipe. The method for producing cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) was also developed in the 1950s. Plastic supply pipes have become increasingly common, with a variety of materials and fittings employed.

As with other construction workers, employment of plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters is sensitive to fluctuations in the economy. On the one hand, workers may experience periods of unemployment when the overall level of construction falls. On the other hand, shortages of workers may occur in some areas during peak periods of building activity.
Just had my toilet replaced cuz my old one died. Anyway, I called and was greeted by August who was very nice. I told him what I needed and then he told me he would have someone call me back asap to set up the appointment to have my toilet replaced. In about an hour, maybe less, I received a call from one of the plumbers and he asked about details regarding the type of toilet I had and how big the restroom was, etc etc....I suck at describing details so I asked if it's ok to take a picture of the toilet and the restroom and he said that's fine. Once he got the pictures he gave me a reasonable quote and said he will be at my place between 12-1pm. He came within the specified time and the whole process only took an hour. No fuss, no mess. Very please with the service and will definitely use this company again for future plumbing needs. Thank you!

If you have a major fix in your home, it’s important to shop around for a plumber to do the work. At least three bids will help you determine the range of the project, so you can weigh the pros and cons of price and the reputation of the plumbers. Get references and contact them. Also, a good plumber isn’t likely to nickel and dime you. For the smaller jobs, check out these 11 plumbing tricks.

PBT – flexible (usually gray or black) plastic pipe which is attached to barbed fittings and secured in place with a copper crimp ring. The primary manufacturer of PBT tubing and fittings was driven into bankruptcy by a class-action lawsuit over failures of this system.[citation needed] However, PB and PBT tubing has since returned to the market and codes, typically first for "exposed locations" such as risers. http://youtube.com/watch?feature=youtube_gdata&v=hokTzqWiBMQ
"Woke up on Saturday morning to find my garage flooded and quickly isolated the culprit: my Hot Water Tank. After several inquiries I decided to hire Dr.(David) Dees Plumbing to replace my Hot Water Tank. He arrived that same day at the specified time, evaluated the situation, gave me a couple of options including my contacting the builder of my home to inquire about a possible free replacement (nice to do business with an ethical guy). Because of my time constraints I decided to have David replace the tank. I couldn't be happier with the price and service. He is honest, competent (Master Plumber), conscientious, professional, clean and friendly. He delivered a professional installation of a commercial grade (Gas) Hot Water Tank compliant with all Fort Worth building/installation codes. He answered all my questions. Shared some maintenance tips to extend the life of my tank. Disposed of the old tank and cleaned up his work space afterwards. If there was a grade higher than "Outstanding" I would give it. I would have no problem rehiring David for future plumbing jobs or recommending him to my friends and acquaintances. A+++++ for service and price. Signed Paul D in Fort Worth, TX"
